Arts and Entertainment A Necessity For Campaigns But Still Not Priority For Overall Development
Friday 21st May 2010
The Recording Industry Association Of Trinidad and Tobago (RIATT), hold the view that our political leaders are not enthusiastic about the development of entertainment as an industry than they are about using it as a tool to fuel their election campaigns.
John Thomas Opera Singer, Orange Sky Alternative Band, Calypsonians, Chutney Soca and Soca Artistes, Dancers, Tassa and African Drummers, Steel Pan, Event Managers, Stage Managers, Sound Engineers, Graphic Artists, Dj’s on and off Music Trucks; We are pleased to see political parties acknowledging the value of the Arts, Entertainment and Culture in the promotion of an election campaign. We truly and sincerely applaud this.
However, we are discontented by the lack of interest from individuals from both sides of the divide not articulating any course of action for the development of Arts, Culture and Entertainment as an industry. We have seen the wording for Arts and Culture in both Manifestoes. That should not be the last point of departure. Shadow ministers of Culture should be utilizing the broadcast media to persuade and convince members of the Arts fraternity further.
It’s time to move away from a tradition of handouts and unfilled promises.
