The global recording industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. Where is Trinidad and Tobago in this picture? Our industry is plagued by inadequate laws, infrastructure and ambivalence on the part of persons within the industry. Many are hesitant to demand their given rights, while others are ignorant of their rights.

The purpose of the Recording Industry Association of Trinidad and Tobago, (RIATT) is to facilitate the harnessing of potential talent into a product to attract international appeal. Until we are recognized as one of the global players, then we can enjoy international market share from the thriving market that is the music industry.

Our vision has always been to see our local artistes and their products aggressively penetrating mainstream international markets beyond West Indian audiences. Together we can translate this vision into an astounding reality.

The richest natural resource our country possesses is unlimited creative talent. This is an asset not only to our culture but also to our entertainment product and economy. We must continue to encourage the financial support, from both the government and private sector towards this inexhaustible commodity. We are convinced that with the correct infrastructure and support systems in place our goals can be realized.

Let me firmly state that there is no room within this organization for “hustlers” and individuals with their own personal agendas.

Some of us are more influential than others; let us put aside our egos and personal vendettas. We should re-channel our energies towards advocating and lobbying, until the change we desire is implemented.

RIATT recognizes its task as securing the future of our music industry. We challenge ourselves to prevent all unfavorable circumstances and unacceptable activities that have been plaguing our industry for decades. We cannot undo what is already done, however the next generation of entertainers and cultural entrepreneurs need to be able to embrace the financial rewards from their creations and contributions.

Whether you are a record producer, a recording artiste, a singer, a promoter, an executive producer, a songwriter, a musician, Come join us in our journey! Together we will rise above every challenge. It is an uphill climb. Let the strong assist the weak. “The race is not for the swift but for those who endureth to the end.”
